ON THE BULLETIN: STREICHER SISTER EVERYTHING

Today ‘On The Bulletin’ is an inside look at our day spent with Kristie, Jenn, and Ashley Streicher–aka the most badass trio of beauty aficionados. We had the best time styling, playing and shooting with them and by the end of the day, it was decided: We wanted to be a Streicher Sister, too.

KRISTIE STREICHER, BROW GURU AND ENTREPRENEUR

TELL US ABOUT YOU AND HOW YOU GOT INTO THE WORLD OF BROWS.

It all started at my first job as a department store cosmetic "counter girl.” I fell in love with learning about how skincare worked on the skin, connecting with women and showing them beauty products.  This inspired my decision to become an esthetician and focus on facials and a deeper understanding of skin and skincare.

TALK TO US ABOUT THE POWER OF THE BROW.

It's such an interesting conversation!  Anytime I tell someone what I do it's so amazing to experience all the different responses people have regarding their eyebrows and how they feel about them.  Feeling confident in your brow is like knowing you look amazing in an outfit.

HOW DOES THE BROW INSPIRE CONFIDENCE?

Having your eyes and face framed by a great brow is a power statement like no other! The brow when its in its truest and best form can truly enhance and highlight not only the cheekbones but the entire facial bone structure. Styling the brow is also an amazing tool. Similar to the beautiful effect on the eyes and face that a great coat of mascara on the lashes has, a brush with either a clear or tinted brow gel in an upward direction lifts and holds the brow hairs up and softly feathered, creating a fluffy and full look that is so beautiful and fresh!

WHAT DOES BEAUTY MEAN TO YOU?

For me, it's being connected to my body, mind and spirit! Giving myself what I need to feel my best always looks beautiful! I also love the idea of "flawless imperfection."  I think beauty is found when we separate from ideas of “perfection.” Embracing ourselves but also allowing a bit of fun exploring different looks.

JENN STREICHER, MAKEUP ARTIST AND ENTREPRENEUR

TELL US ABOUT YOU AND HOW YOU GOT INTO THE WORLD OF MAKEUP.

I was so happy to get a job at the Estée Lauder counter after high school. I knew nothing about makeup but thought it would be really cool to wear a chic uniform. Then, I really fell in love with makeup application while working for all kinds of brands at department stores during college. It wasn't until I moved to NYC on a whim that I realized I could make a career out of it. And that's what I did. I got an agent and slowly worked my way up. New York City really gave me a lot.

HOW DO YOU TELL A STORY THROUGH MAKEUP?

I am not sure I tell a story through makeup! I like to think that I help others tell their story through doing their makeup! Before applying makeup, I like to ask women what their makeup fantasies are. I like to think I help women feel their best but also still feel like themselves.

HOW DO YOU HOPE PEOPLE FEEL WHEN YOU DO THEIR MAKEUP?

I guess that's what I was getting at…I want women to feel like their BEST selves but not unrecognizable. My aesthetic has always been on the more natural side. I've never been into “covering up,” but enhancing one's features and natural beauty.

WHAT DOES BEAUTY MEAN TO YOU?

I believe that beauty is a feeling. It's when you feel your best it exudes from the inside out. To me, beauty has no age or gender and shows up in many different ways. You can find beauty in everyone.

ASHLEY STREICHER, HAIR STYLIST AND ENTREPRENEUR

TELL US ABOUT YOU AND HOW YOU GOT INTO THE WORLD OF HAIR.

I got into this world, what seems now like eons ago. It's actually hard to remember a time that I wasn't somehow in this world of hair. I was in highschool, a sophmore, when I started beauty school. This was more a way to keep my teenage self out of trouble, lol. But then I soon realized how fun and creative, not to mention lucrative, it could be. I fell in love and started my hair journey as soon as my hair instructors would let me. I've worked my way up the ladder of hair ever since!

WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED ABOUT PEOPLE WHEN DOING THEIR HAIR?

Great question, I think people often forget how intimate and personal hair can be. I love working one-on-one with people, gaining their trust and then expanding all the hair possibilities! Once you connect with someone while doing their hair, there's really no better feeling. They guide me by letting me in and showing me their likes, dislikes, insecurities and much more. Then I can be creative with what they've given me to work with. It's a dance, and sometimes takes many appts to get to that sweet spot, but that's the journey! It really never gets old, there's always so much to learn about people. And also, people change! As do hair trends!

HOW DOES HAIR GIVE YOU A MOOD BOOST?

Just talking about it in this interview is getting me boosted! There is just so much when it comes to hair: textures, colors, styles, personalities, products, tools, embellishments, etc. It's all so exciting and one can NEVER know it all. I love that about this industry. There's just always more. Every person and their hair are so different that it really allows you to stay creative all the time. There is no way you can think "in the box" when it comes to hair because of the differences we all have. Keeps it so exciting and I love the challenge!

WHAT DOES BEAUTY MEAN TO YOU?

Beauty is what is exuded when someone is doing/looking/feeling their best. I think beauty is associated with well-being. For me, beauty starts with your natural state of being, working with what has naturally been given. It can be fun to build on that, to create more beauty by enhancing what's been given!
