How To Care For Your FRĒDA’S

Our shoes are made from a variety of high-quality leathers. With any real leather product, there will be variations in color and texture that give the leather its unique appeal. Over time, general wear, body oils, sunlight and other elements you encounter in your journey will affect your shoes. This is expected and gives your shoes character. To keep your FRĒDA’S looking as new as possible here are some helpful tips.

Storage

Always store FRĒDA’S in a clean, dry place and keep out of direct sunlight. After wear (especially for a longer period of time) let your shoes air dry from any body moisture.

Calf Leathers

Our tumbled and smooth leathers are very high quality and should last for years. To keep the leather clean, moisturized, durable and elastic, your shoes should be polished once a month. If excess dirt gets on your shoes, take a slightly damp soft cloth, paper-towel or clean makeup sponge and wipe gently. If the stain is tougher, try leather cleaner. Keep in mind, never use leather cleaner with acid or detergent as it will age the leather and shorten the lifespan of your shoes. Please test the cleaner on a small portion of your shoe to make sure there will be no discoloration. In general, it is also highly recommended to take your shoes to a cobbler to be professionally cleaned.

Suede

The best way to care for suede is prevention, as this will help minimize damage from moisture, oil, dirt, salt and hopefully prevent staining. Water and stain guards can be purchased at a cobbler or drugstore. Please test the stain guard on a small section of your shoes before you treat the whole pair.

Suede should be kept out of direct sunlight for long periods of time, as it is especially prone to fade. If a suede shoe gets wet, soak up the moisture as soon as possible with a clean towel and allow to air dry, then brush the nap with a suede brush.

For regular suede maintenance, a suede brush can be used to refresh the nap of the suede.

Haircalf

Please note that haircalf shoes are made from calf leather and should be treated as such. If your shoes get wet, wipe them off with a dry cloth as soon as possible. If they get dirty, let the substance dry completely and then brush it off with a hard bristled brush, following the direction of the hair. You can spray the article with a very thin layer of hair spray to keep the hair down and add a layer of protection against the elements (be sure to protect any tanned leather from the spray when you do this.) We do not recommend using scotch-guard or any leather spray guard on haircalf shoes.

Embossed Exotics Leathers

Our exotic printed leather is stamped calf leather and should be treated as such. To keep this leather clean, moisturized, durable and elastic, your shoes should be polished once a month.

General Wear And Tear/ What To Expect

FRĒDA SALVADOR shoes are all hand made in Spain using the finest leathers. Because of this each pair will have unique variations, we love this about our shoes and hope you do too. Depending on how often you wear your frēdas, what kind of terrain you are walking on and how hard you are on your shoes will factor into the longevity of your shoes.

We add a rubber spray to most of our shoes, but having a rubber sole professionally applied is recommended if you wear your frēdas frequently or in wet conditions. Heel tabs will wear down naturally over time and can be easily replaced by a cobbler. It is time to replace your soles or heel tabs when the sole or rubber tab is becoming irregular or wearing down close to the leather.
