Here's a round-up of Team FREDA's favorite books to read during our summer holidays:
Madame Picasso - Megan's pick "I am obsessed with artists, writers and designers. I want to be in their head and know what passions feed their creativity. Even though this book is fiction, it was based off of the true (love) story between Picasso and Eva Gouel. She brought something out in him that changed him forever. The story Anne Girard painted of this duo, really resonated with me."
The Complete Short Stories of Ernest Hemingway - Hillary's pick "Hemingway is hands down my favorite author. I love this book because you can dive in at any point and get completely new insight into his writing style and life experiences. Short stories are also great for a quick beach or poolside read!"
FRIDA, A Biography of Frida Kahlo - Cristina's pick "This book provides an in depth look into the life of one of the most talented artists of our time. Through direct citations of her diary and extensive analysis of her paintings, you are able to truly feel her joy, pain, and loss as she lived a hard life, suffered a tragic accident, and shared a passionate marriage. I have always been fascinated by her strength, and this biography allows me to learn more about this inspiring woman."
The Unbearable Lightness of Being - Emily's pick "It's a complicated story told from the point of view of each individual character involved. But its overall philosophy on life and how there are so many different ways to live (none of which are right or wrong)."
FAHRENHEIT 451 - Theresa's pick "In a society that is consumed by technology, this book reminds me of the importance of individual intellect and to always question."
The Diver's Clothes Lie Empty - Mel's pick "Vendela Vida's writing grasps the reader and carries you through the brilliantly crafted stories and tales compiled together to offer a heart-pounding journey of gradual identity loss in a foreign land. This book left me on the edge of my seat and yearning for more, it's that good."
